How I Design

by William Love | Oct 25, 2008 | Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Illustration, Logo, Print, Procedure, Sketch

Welcome to VividlyDrawn.com! I would like to share with you my design procedures as I take you on a journey with one of my clients branding projects I will be using as my example in this great venture. I ask my clients a series of artistic questions to get a feel of their thoughts and ideas they may have. This procedure is very important to me because I am sharing communication and need an understanding of what the client is truly wanting for their business. I look forward to seeing what ideas my clients will share with me so I can design around their inspiration.

Client Inspiration

I was given two images the client really had his eye on and wanted the compass and the ships wheel to be combined. I took the next couple of days to brainstorm, doodle and sketch out ideas on paper. Once I am through brainstorming, I collect my best sketch ideas, take the pieces and put them together across my illustration boards with applied notes. A clearer picture starts to come together for the client.

Bringing Pieces Together

I created several concepts and finally narrowed it down to these two sketches of a ships wheel and a compass. I scanned the sketch and digitally illustrated the two images bringing them together as one. After I chose several topographies to be placed around the compass, and added several colors to the logo.

I accomplished bringing together the right illustration, matching his ideas and images he brought to the table with my own and completed the digital logo my client was looking for. Next, I began to design his stationery. I ended up creating three business cards for different business purposes and personalized letter writing paper.
